Mar 18, 2011

THEY should not because most universities have foreign students. If you involve national politics, it affects foreign students in that there may not be level ground for those who may also want to contest as guild presidents.

Nana Namakau, student, KIU Western Campus

They should not interfere with students because the national political scene portrays a negative image about politics. Politicians have a lot of selfish interests and this could easily contaminate these young students.
Benon Munyanzinza, a businessman, Kansanga

They should because it helps political parties to tap and train young talent for the future of the party. After all, at campus, all students are expected to be above 18 years old.
Enock Kwarija, canteen man, Makerere University

It is good for national politics to be part of university guild elections because this is good training ground for future politicians. Besides, some of the students at campus have political parties they subscribe to.
Terah Kaaya, a presenter, Bukedde TV

National politics interference may change student’s leader’s race from ‘who is able’ to ‘who is the biggest’. Students may vote for a bad leader or ignore a good one just because he or she belongs to a political party they either like or do not like.
