MUKONO Grade One magistrate Robert Imaligati has sentenced a suspected conman to six months in Kauga Prison over contempt of court.

Last week, Joseph Rwamukyu appeared before Imaligati to answer charges of conning a district engineer in Mukono of sh11m in a dam construction deal. When this charge was read to him, Rwamukyu started uttering abusive words to the magistrate which prompted the magistrate to ask for a breathalyzer to test the quantity of alcohol in accused’s body

“Why am I here? Are you people stupid? I know the law better than you and I am not ready to listen to your nonsense,” Rwamukyu told the magistrate.

Pointing a finger at the magistrate, Rwamukyu accused Imaligati of conniving with the Police to falsely accuse him. Drama ensued when the breathalyzer was brought and before the test could be done, Rwamukyu ran amok. He confronted the Police officers, over-turned the magistrates table and tore court files. Rwamukyu also destroyed other properties in the court room. He was eventually overpowered by the Police officers and the prison warden who handcuffed him.

This act raised the magistrates wrath and he sentenced Rwamukyu to six months. It is after serving that sentence that his previous case will be heard.
