WHILE he lived, his passion and dedication to educate all human beings, especially the disdvantaged, transcended all his desires.

And, a year after his death, his dream of giving voluntary service and knowledge lives on. It is in this vein that the Kiyaga Scholarship Fund was recently launched at Mugwanya Summit College, Kyengera.

The Fund is to educate needy students and seminarians in honour of the great educationist, Rotarian and social worker, Martin Kiyaga.

The Fund is a brainchild of the Rotary clubs of Kyengera, Mengo and Centenary Bank.

Kiyaga, who died of cancer, last year, was the founder and proprietor of Mugwanya Summit College and the chairman of the Association of Catholic Educational Institutions and Teachers of Kampala Archdiocese.

He also served as a biology, physics and chemistry teacher and the deputy head teacher of Trinity College Nabbingo and St. Balikuddembe SS, Mitala-Maria, respectively.

He stood out as a generous Ugandan, who reached out to many needy students and helped them to access education.

The Buganda Katikkiro, Eng. John Walusimbi contributed sh1m to the fund. The managing director of Quality Chemicals, Emmanuel Katongole, and Centenary Bank also contributed sh1m and sh0.5m.
