THE first thing the people behind Club Le Beaujolais, the new discotheque in town, got right was the location.

In the heart of Centenary Park, home to two of the city’s most popular bars at the moment, pulling a massive crowd was almost a foregone conclusion as this place is almost overcrowded on any given Saturday night.

As early as 8:00pm, Kampala’s usual party goers had started flocking this place in numbers as if they were going for a pilgrimage of sorts. The crowd grew too big at the entrance of the pool side gardens where the show was that a long queue stretching to the far ends of Centenary Park’s parking lot formed.

The stage set in the middle of the Centenary Park swimming pool was a sight to behold and was the first thing that would catch your eye the moment you beat the chaos at the entrance and accessed the concert ground.

By 9:00pm, a number of curtain raising acts were beginning to take to the stage as revellers got fired up for the main act of the night-the Kenyan singing trio of P-Unit.

Aziz Azion, with his smooth R&B melodies got the crowd started as former Blu3 girls Jackie Chandiru and Lilian Mbabazi set the tone for the long-awaited P-Unit. But this was not before the crowd got a chance to cool off the heat with a fashion show involving some sassy and revealing small dresses and a performance by upcoming artiste Susan Nava.

Ululations and jubilation filled the crowd especially from the Kenyans living in Uganda who were very well represented as the P-Unit trio of Frasha, Gabu and Bon-Eye made their way to the stage and started belting out some of their multiple award-wining hits that include their biggest hit Kare. Others were Hapa Kure, Jutu Saana and Kushoto Kulia, to mention but a few.

By 12:30am, P-Unit had effectively brought down the house and while some already worn-out revellers were finding their way to their homes, the more enthusiastic ones were trying to squeeze their way into the newly opened Club Le Beaujolais. Inside the club, it was more than a full house as some guests relaxed in the discotheque’s entrance to get some fresh air while others insisted on partying the rest of the night away in the really congested club.
