AFTER she wrote in to Blitz, 20-year-old Doreen Nalubega, a second year mass communication student at Makerere University could not stop wondering what the odds were that she would actually get lucky and meet her favourite star, singer Toniks.

Well, she beat the odds and last week, she met and spent time with Toniks at Hotel Ruch. She told DUNCAN KUSHABA all about it.

I hear that all the time. It seems you took a bit of time off to look good for Toniks, right?
Definitely. It would be embarrassing if I showed up in front of a hunky star in funny attire. I am fashion conscious so I had to impress him.

How are you feeling now that you finally met Toniks?
I do not exactly know how to call this thing I am feeling inside. I guess it is ecstasy or something close to that.
Why is he that important to you anyway?
Who am I to resist his soothing melodies? He sings well. He is tall and handsome. He is definitely a hot fellow. What more can girl ask for in her star?

My intuition is never wrong! You know I could tell he is one guy that listens to girls and since he met a pretty one, he paid extra attention to whatever I said. He is such a nice guy you know, I am not saying this because he is handsome and sings well but I feel like I know him a little better now. He is not proud like they say. He is such a laid-back person. He told me about his love for music and how his fans mean the whole world to him. He is so soft spoken, something which might determine his uphill climb.
Didn’t you ask him about the girl he sings about in his song That Girl?
Yes I did but he could not open up. He just said he just sang about a beautiful girl and kept referring to me.

Okay, relax. You win. The way he received me told me he is a caring guy. I came with two other people but he took me aside from everyone just so he could know more about this girl who loves him so much. It was easy to tell he was grateful meeting me. And he has gorgeous eyes filled with emotion you can notice in a distance.
