Katumba Wamala tops army polls

GEN. Katumba Wamala, land forces commander, polled the highest number of votes in the just concluded elections for UPDF representatives to Parliament, according to the gazzeted results.

GEN. Katumba Wamala, land forces commander, polled the highest number of votes in the just concluded elections for UPDF representatives to Parliament, according to the gazzeted results.

Katumba garnered 228 votes in the March election supervised by Electoral Commission chief Badru Kiggundu.

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, shared the second position with one of the incumbent MPs, Maj. Sarah Mpabwa, who also got 215 votes.

President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander–in-Chief of the armed forces, witnessed the elections held at the land forces’ headquarters in Bombo.

The defence council that elects the MPs comprises 360 members who include heads of directorates, chieftaincy heads, division commanders and brigade and battalion commanders.

There are 10 UPDF representatives in Parliament.

The army forms part of the special interest groups in Parliament. Others are women, persons with disabilities, workers and youth.
