ROWING and canoeing are the surprise inclusion on the disciplines that Uganda has entered in the All Africa Games due in Maputo, Mozambique September 3-18.

Uganda has confirmed a contingent of 225 athletes drawn from 20 disciplines.

According to the engagement in principle document sent to the games organising committee signed by sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi, rowing will have three participants and canoeing four.

The games organised by the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa in conjunction with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa- ANOCA help African member countries tune up for the Olympic Games.

All athletes, to be confirmed in the final entry, must qualify through events organised by regional or continental bodies.

Archery, which last year competed in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi has been left out while shooting makes a come back after almost 10 years without competing at international level. They last participated in the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.
