UGANDA’s national U-23 soccer side the Kobs has been boosted by Kenya based midfielder Mudde Musa. The Sofapaka linkman is expected in camp at Kavumba today together with other foreign based players Moses Oloya and Isaac Isinde.

Mude’s experience with the national senior side the Cranes will be one of the strong points coach George Ssimwogerere will be looking at. “We urgently need this experience if we are to overcome the Tanzanians,” noted Ssimwogerere yesterday before the team’s last non residential training at Old Kampala.

That the team will have only four days to gel is another factor that has had the coach opting for experience. Left full back Godfrey Walusimbi and Mike Mutyaba are the other squads men from the Cranes.

Ssimwogerere is also well aware that Uganda’s loss in the Olympic qualifiers had a lot to do with inexperience. The coach, who has worked in Tanzania, also knows the kind of opposition that awaits him.

The Tanzanian side will be dominated by players who eliminated favourites Cameroon at the weekend in the Olympic qualifiers. “They are good side that employs short penetrative passes with dribbles. We should expect a tough game,” noted Ssimwogerere.

Ssimwogerere also has players like Ali Kimera, Mutyaba, Patrick Edema, Sula Matovu from the U-21 team. The U-21 team returns today from Congo Brazzaville where they lost an Olympic qualifier.

Uganda is out to emulate its 1999 All Africa Games outing where the Kobs with players like David Obua, Ibrahim Sekagya and Hassan Mubiru reached the semi-finals.

The winner of this weekend’s match between Uganda and Tanzania will in the second round in June face the winner in the other zone five match between Eritrea and Kenya. Winners of the seven zones of Africa will join the hosts Mozambique to form the eight countries in the finals of the continental showpiece to be held in Maputo from September 3-18.
