AFTER triumphing over giants Cameroon, Tanzania has warned Uganda to also expect a surprise in Saturday’s All Africa Games qualifier.

“Nothing is impossible with this crop of players; we have the quality to shock Uganda in front of their home fans,” Manyara Stars coach Jamhuri Kihwelu told Tanzania publication Citizen.

Contrary to Uganda, Tanzania is using the same team that eliminated Cameroon in the Olympic qualifiers. The Manyara Stars and Cameroon tied 3-3 on aggregate before the West Africans were ejected 4-3 on penalties in Dar es Salaam’s National Stadium.

Kihwelu has no intentions of defending away. “We need to go there and be at our best, and work hard, because if we don’t perform well there, we’ll have a huge mountain to climb in the return leg,” he said.

The outspoken coach added: “It’s not a matter of going there, sitting behind the ball, and trying to get something.

Unlike Tanzania, Uganda will be fielding a largely new team that has barely trained together for a week.

Ssimwo not shaken
Uganda Kobs coach George Ssimwogerere is however not shaken. “I have worked in Tanzania. I know their team very well. I assure Ugandans that we are winning on Saturday.”

Ssimwogerere’s plans have however been disrupted by news that the player on whom he was basing his midfield is overage.

Mudde is overage
“Mude Musa’s records show that he was born in 1987 yet the competition’s regulations state that players should have been born after January 1989,” revealed team coordinator Jackson Nyiima.

Foreign based players Emma Okwi, Robert Odongkara and Moses Oloya who were expected yesterday will also now report to camp in Kavumba today.

Namboole warning
But before local soccer governing body FUFA thinks of Saturday’s match they had better clear their outstanding debts at the sports complex.

Sources on Namboole’s management board have revealed that FUFA will have to first clear sh4.8m debts before the match. The money was for services offered by Namboole during a FIFA referees’ course at the complex.

When contacted yesterday board chairman Jim Mugunga confirmed that despite numerous reminders FUFA has refused to comply.

The match was initially supposed to be at Nakivubo but FUFA opted for the more modern Namboole because of the poor state of Nakivubo.

FUFA and Namboole stadium management have meanwhile issued a security alert ahead of the qualifier.

The stadium acting manager Patrick Ogwang and FUFA security officers said yesterday that there will be heavy deployment of security in a bid to counter any threats. The security alert follows terrorism threats Police has reported in Kampala.
