WORLD junior athletics championships bronze medallists Annet Negesa (800m) and Jacob Araptany (3000mSC) will lead a Ugandan raid in Kenya to compete in the Athletics Kenya weekend at Kisii, in western Kenya, tomorrow.

Negesa and Araptany, who were also part of the national team to the World Cross Country Championships, have been entered in the event according to Uganda Athletics Federation Beatrice Ayikoru. The two were also crowned female and male best upcoming athletes for last season.

“They are getting more competition in Kenya and the venue is near Bukwo unlike Kampala,” she explained on why they decided to travel to Kenya other than coming to Kampala for the 4th national trials that will be held on the same day.

She however said that does not leave the national trials at Namboole devoid of competition. “We will have more Kampala based athletes from education institutions, forces and clubs,” she said.

The athletes in Kenya include Negesa (800m), Viola Chemos and Jackline Cherutwo (5000m), Dorcus Chesang (5000m/3000m SC) for the women.

The men have Jacob Araptany, Emmanuel Sasia and Moses Kiptera (1500m), Peter Kibet, Daniel Rotich, Solomon Mutai and Moses Kwemoi (5000m/10000m) and Ben Siwa (5000m/steeplechase).
