THE Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is seeking to recruit a new executive director to replace Dr. Maggie Kigozi whose term expires in June.

According to the board chairman, Patrick Bitature, the recruitment process is on and all suitably qualified Ugandans are free to apply for the post.

“The process is on. We are trying to get a consultant to do the job,” Bitature told MPs on the commissions and statutory committee yesterday.

This followed complaints by the committee to the Minister of Finance over what they called gross mismanagement of affairs of the UIA.

Among the issues the committees raised were the weak human resource, gross mismanagement of the Kampala Industrial Park and the poor country’s investment image before potential investors.

After a meeting with the Ministry of Finance, the UIA management and board of directors, the committee wrote to the Minister of State for Investment requesting that a new executive director be recruited before the expiry of the current term.

The committee also asked finance to investigate funds lost in the projects with the view of recovering them from individuals responsible.

The committee further demanded that a special audit be conducted by the office of the Auditor General on the management of the Kampala Industrial Business Park.

Kigozi’s contract had earlier been queried after the committee learnt that her contract expired in December 2009 but she remained in office until August 2010 when it was renewed.

The committee also established that after coming under pressure from Parliament to explain the saga, the board backdated her new contract to December 2009, when the first contract expired.
