THE Uganda Rugby Union URU elections on Sunday saw William Blick retain his chair after his former deputy Steven Ojambo withdrew his candidature at the polls held at Kati Kati.

But those who think Ojambo’s gesture to stand down was in good faith got it wrong. His camp has plan B where they plan to use the constitution to oust Blick on technical and ethical grounds.

“While selling Kampala Rugby Club (KRUFC), the chairman conducted himself in a manner that breaches the code of ethics of URU and we intend to move a vote of no confidence,” Sam Ahamya KRUFC secretary informed the assembly. Ojambo is chairman, KRUFC.

Ahamya further explained to an attentive assembly that the chairman (Blick) wanted a $30000 (sh71.4m) commission from the $1.6m (sh3.8bn) sale which they objected to. He said Blick is now backing Capital Ventures, a company that intends to sue KRUFC for breach of a sale agreement.

“We shall provide the evidence with papers and later seek a 2/3 majority and call for a Special General Assembly that will take a vote of no confidence in the chairman,” Ahamya stated before walking out in protest.

But before that he had announced that Kampala rugby club will, for the moment, not be involved in URU activities. But he did not explain whether they will also withdraw players from Rhinos and Pirates from both the Bamburi Super Series and national team activities.
Blick denied all the allegations but admitted that he advised KRUFC management to sell the place and get a better place but through the club members.

“I advised them as William and not URU chairman. I didn’t get involved in any process of transactions and if they have proof and court judges that I am guilty I will resign,” Blick stated.

KRUFC comprises of Pirates, Rhinos, Boks, Pirates II and Kobs rugby clubs. However Kobs are rallying behind embattled Blick.
