THE race for the Uganda Super League title gathers momentum today with both contenders URA FC and KCC FC involved in must-win fixtures.

Table leaders URA will have to replicate their relentless winning form against Police at Namboole Stadium to consolidate their lead and restrict sustained pressure from second-placed KCC, who host Firemasters in the second of four matches on card.

URA boss Alex Isabirye has already labeled his side’s clash against Police as the ‘first of four finals’ and one that could swing either way despite the tax collectors’ 3-0 cruising victory over the cops in their first round meeting.

“We had the edge in the first round because we were at home (in Lugazi). They are a strong side that has been together for a long time and are capable of anything,” Isabirye stated.

After today’s game, the tax collectors will then have fixtures against Maroons, Victors and KCC to negotiate before sealing their third league championship.

But that will only happen if KCC falter in one of their six remaining matches that also includes their final season engagement against URA.

KCC will be eager to redeem their season after last week’s goalless draw against Victors –a result that provided just proof of the club’s impotence in front of goal this season.

It’s surprising to note that the 2007 league champions do not have a team member among the top 15 league scorers.

The club’s lead scorer Andy Sekayombya boasts a lowly three goals.

That said, KCC coach Matia Lule has plenty of attacking options, with Caesar Sapeo and Brian Majwega available and enjoying fine spells of form.

Firematers are relatively safe from the prospect of dropping back into the first division at the second time of asking, but will be wary of a late-season slip-up, given they are sitting just one point off the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, SC Villa will revive their chase for a top four finish in their mid-table game against Pro-line.
