Scarcity of transport means, commuters stranded

When President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni lifted the ban on public transport earlier, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) had issued strict guidelines that must be followed by taxi and bus operators before driving on the road.

All non -registered taxis and buses have been warned not to enter Kampala, before entering registering.  The registration which begun at the end of May and is being conducted at Old Kampala Secondary School and Kitante Primary School will go on until June 30, 2020.

Since some taxi operators failed to get route charts, passengers in many parts of the country were stranded for hours on the main road due to failure to get taxis.

Because some passengers were desperate to move, some people defied the President's directive and shared bodabodas, and also boarded trucks to reach their destinations.

Even though the president Okayed bodaboda riders to operate, they were restricted to only transport cargo and not passengers.

Regardless of the hike in transport fares, commuters were willing to board as long as they reach their destinations.

The Works Minister, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, recently directed police to let motorists whose driving permits have expired during the lockdown that started on March 18, to continue driving since renewal services were not operational.
