Gone are the days when plain red nail polish was the only way to dress nails. Today, black, green, purple and blue are the way to go. In addition to the many shades of nail polish on the market, there are also designs that you can apply to your nails for that unique touch. A picture could be drawn on your nails with a distinct colour from the one painted on or use of many well mixed colours to make a design.

However, before you join the nail art craze, here are a few tips to consider:
- With nail art, one may not do it well on their own and need to visit a salon or beauty parlour for it to be done.

-It tends to look better on long nails, so if you have short nails, you could opt for artificial extensions to achieve the effect. However, if you choose to do it on short nails, use a maximum of three colours and use a longitudinal design.

-Do not apply more than four visible colours on your nails.

-If you use artificial nails, do not use super glue to attach them to the real ones, as it will destroy them gradually. Go for nail glue instead. You could opt for acrylics or powder nails instead, which are moulded onto your nails. They not only look natural, but can also stay on for up to a month.

-If you are applying nail art for a particular occasion, ensure whatever you use blends with your outfit.
