The 19-year old, who failed to win the accolade in April despite making the shortlist, bounced back to beat professional boxer Sharif Bogere into second place by 60 points, while URA FC came third with 435 votes.

The scribes voted Negesa at Oasis Restaurant at Lugogo, yesterday for winning double gold medals at the Africa Junior Athletics Championships in Gaborone, Botswana last month.

Negesa clocked 4 minutes 09.17 seconds to win the 1500m before clinching another gold in the 800m in a time of 2:04.09 at the same meet.

Bogere contested the award for beating Mexican Raymundo Beltran to the North American Boxing Organisation (NABO) lightweight belt.

The 22-year-old Bogere won the 10-round bout by a unanimous decision (96-94, 96-94, 97-93) in Nevada.
