PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has donated sh10m towards the construction of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Ntinda.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has donated sh10m towards the construction of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Ntinda.
The state minister for finance (planning), Matia Kasaija, announced the donation during a fundraising dinner at Hotel Africana on Friday.
In a speech read by Kasaija, Museveni commended the church for promoting development.
The President said his contribution was meant to ensure that the church is completed by October, which is the stipulated time.
Kasaija, who was the guest of honour, contributed sh1m and promised to ask his colleagues in Parliament to raise more funds for the project.
Construction of the sh1.3b church, which will accommodate over 1,000 worshipers, started on June 7, 2009.
The chairman of the laity, Charles Owor, told well-wishers and parishioners that sh200m was needed to complete the church.
Owor said over sh700m had been used on the project and the challenge was to raise another sh200m needed for installing windows, doors, internal and external plastering.
He said most of the money used in the construction was raised by Christians of Ntinda and other well-wishers.
A total of sh112m was raised in pledges during the function.
Patrick Bitature, the chairman of the Uganda Investment Authority, contributed sh4m, while Centenary Bank gave sh8m.
Kampala Archdiocese Vicar General Fr. Charles Kasibante, who represented Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, urged Ugandans to promote peace and unity and to participate in government programmes.
