AFTER breaking the 100m national record that had stood for over 20 years, Justine Bayigga wants to go a step better and qualify for the World Championships.

Bayigga is up against rivals including Mildred Gamba and Emily Nanziri at the Central Regional Championships at Namboole today.

The men’s sprints will see Ali Ngaimoko, Geoffrey Akena, Lazarus Inyar and Abdunoor Kato battling.
Emmanuel Sasia will face Charles Anywar, Thomas Rona and Ian Kipchumba in the middle distance events.

The athletes and her colleagues are eyeing qualification for the world show due in South Korea in August.

Bayigga, is beaming with confidence after clocking 11.38 seconds to beat the old record of 11.64 set by Oliver Acii at an international event in Auckland, New Zealand.

Bayigga set the mark at the Eastern African Championships in Dar-es-Salaam two weeks ago. The runner won gold in the 100m and 200m events.

Besides the action at Namboole, other athletes will compete in the Western Regional in Kanungu.
