Old boys of Kiira College Butiki have asked for a new board of governors for the school.

Members of the Kiira College Butiki Old Boys Association, said the existing board is not effective.

The members have asked the association new leaders to reconstitute the board to monitor the school administration.

Jabweli Okello, the outgoing chairman of the association said the current board comprised members who were unable to guide the school administration.

“The chairman and other key members of the board have been in office for over 20 years. They are clearly out of touch with the demands of the 21st century school,” he said.

Okello was speaking during the association’s annual general meeting at the school on Saturday.

The members noted that the school had been on a downward trend, with a decline in academic performance, level of discipline, infrastructure maintenance and cleanliness.

“From past glories of consistently being among the best schools in national examinations, the school these days hardly features even among the first 30. This is unacceptable to us, as old boys,” Okello said.

Daudi Mulongo, who has been the headmaster for over 10 years, was recently transferred by the Ministry of Education to Manjasi High School in Tororo.

Mulongo’s transfer followed a demonstration by students, citing poor administration.

He was replaced by Daniel Douglas Kaima, the former head teacher of Iganga High School.

Kaima was introduced to the old boys at the meeting.

He asked stakeholders, including the alumni, to support his efforts to restore the school’s glory.

Benon Kigenyi, an employee in the Office of the Prime Minister, was elected as the chairman of the association.
Leadership of the association consists of nine members.
