THE Rapid Response Unit (RRU) has intercepted five vehicles in an operation to curb cross boarder crimes.

The operation that has gone on for four months is aimed at recovering stolen vehicles in the region. RRU chief Joel Aguma made the remarks while handing over a Pajero Mitsubishi to a Kenyan owner at the units’ head offices in Kireka near Kampala recently. A suspect, identified as Innocent Kashinde, was also handed over to Kenyan Interpol officials led by Johnson Nyambu.

Kashinde, who claimed ownership of the vehicle, is alleged to have forged documents and duplicated the car key.

Other vehicles which were previously handed over include four Isuzu trucks, also stolen from Kenya. Aguma said the Pajero Mitsubishi was intercepted in Arua district from a Tanzanian national heading to Sudan.

“We found that the car number plate was not matching with those on the wind screens and indicators,” he said. George Ocheng, the owner of the vehicle, said it was stolen last August from Kenya.
