THE smooth flow of the upcoming Twenty20 Pepsi ICC Africa Division One Championship has been secured after the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) confirmed a sponsorship package that should take care of the entire one-week tournament.

The sh100m package, announced at a press conference yesterday, is from soft-drink giants Pepsi, who have a major sponsorship agreement with world cricket body, ICC.

The deal for the five-team event due in Kampala and Entebbe July 9 -15, is partly-funded from the company’s partnership with the ICC, the rest from their local subsidiary Crown Beverages.

UCA Chief Executive Justin Ligyalingi welcomed the support that will save the local body from the financial burden, and he predicted a successful tournament.

Uganda will face Namibia, Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana in a round robin event that is a pre-qualifier for the 2012 World Cup.

Foreign teams are due in Kampala starting today.
