The renovation of Arua municipality abattoir has been completed. The over 40-year-old facility has been in a sorry state and a source of public concern. The initiative was intended to ensure the public gets safe meat through improving the hygiene of the facility and the workers. The municipal veterinary officer, Dr. Luke Taban, disclosed that the interior renovation cost about sh62m and fencing cost about sh22m through the Local Government Development Programme. The works included interior wall tiling in the slaughter house.

Kitgum school closed over strike
Janan Luwum Secondary School in Mucwini sub-county, Kitgum district has been closed over a strike on Monday. The students burnt down 10 grass-thatched huts belonging to teachers and attempted to torch the laboratory and library using petrol. The deputy head-teacher, Benjamin Okello, on Tuesday said the students were sent back home, but would not say why they went on strike, but sources said the students protested the way athletes, who represented the school during the district sports competitions last weekend, were selected
