Tangerines and Oranges
For the past two weeks, the supply of oranges and tangerines to Kampala markets has drastically reduced. This reduction has led to an increase in the prices of oranges.

In Nakawa and Nakasero markets, six oranges cost sh1,000 yet at a similar price, one would get 12 oranges. A kilogram of oranges in Nakasero Market now costs sh2,500 up from sh2,000. In Owino and Kalerwe markets 15 oranges used to cost sh1,000 but currently, six oranges go for the same price.

In Kibuye, Owino and Kalerwe markets eight tangerines cost sh1,000 yet previously, 20 tangerines were priced at sh1,000.

Sugar
The price of sugar has gone up sh200. The kilogram hat was previously priced at between sh2,700 and sh2,800 in all markets is now sh3,000.

The vendors blame the price rise on the high fuel prices.

Maize flour
The price of maize flour has continued to escalate. By end of week last week, a kilogram of maize in Kampala markets had gone up by about sh200.

A kilogram of maize flour that previously cost sh2,000 in Owino, Nakawa, Nakasero, Kibuye and Kalerwe markets was at sh2,200 by mid last week. While in Owino and Kibuye markets, the kilogram that previously cost sh2,200, was selling at sh2,300.

In Nakasero, and Nakawa, markets the price of maize flour has remained constant at sh2,500.

The vendors attribute the rise in price to the reduced supply of maize due to the low yields from the producing areas.
