JUSTIN Kimono has been confirmed as part of the national team to the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) U-19 tournament due July 23-28 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The 19-year old Kimono has fast become a household name in just over a month following his display for the national senior team.

The U-19 side leaves for Zimbabwe on Friday.

“Justin is a very good asset to our team and I think he will transfer his experience from the senior team to the U-19’s in the CAR event,” said coach Brian Makalama.

The rugby patrons society have already ensured the team’s travel by raising $5000 (sh12.8) for the trip.

This was after the local rugby body URU found difficulty in raising $30000 (sh75.6m) needed for the trip. The union had raised $18000.

Former URU chairmen Paul Sigombe, Andrew Owinyi and Sanjiv Patel are the members of the patron society.

Uganda is grouped with Namibia, Tunisia and hosts Zimbabwe in the first tier, while Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco and Zambia are in the second group.

Uganda finished fourth at the last year’s edition in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

r Uganda and neighbouring rugby governing bodies have revived the East Africa Tuskers team that has been inexistent for the last 28 years. The team’s first assignment will be an encounter against the England Counties team in June next year.

The revival of the side offers an opportunity of international exposure for the region’s players and raise their stakes in professional careers.

“We are looking not only at playing foreign teams but building professionalism in our players and creating opportunities for them to seek international standards,” Kenya rugby union president Mwangi Muthee stated during the launch at Kyadondo rugby ground on Saturday.

Kenya and Uganda will form a team that will play England national second side, the England Counties, in Kampala next year during the side’s tour of Africa.
