The split of Busoga Church of Uganda diocese into two is on schedule, diocesan secretary Can. Sam Egesa has disclosed. He said on Tuesday that currently, the two splinter dioceses of central and eastern Busoga are setting up modern cathedrals and office blocks. Their headquarters will be in Iganga Archdeaconry and Bugiri district respectively.

“Once the infrastructural and financial independence has been achieved, the dioceses will start operating as individual entities. Each must have a cathedral, sh12m on a bank account, office space and a bishop’s residence,” Egesa said.

The Rev. Can. Ezekiel Nyende, the Archdeacon of Iganga, said roofing the cathedral would cost about sh22m.

The Archdeacon of Bugiri, the Rev. David Kaluuya, explained that both the Bishop’s house and church building are soon to be completed.

In January 2010, Busoga Bishop the Rt. Rev. Michael Kyomya gave the green light for the split of the diocese into three dioceses.
