Italy has handed over three bridges and a 3km graded road in Agago district to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).

The projects which cost over sh1.3b were on Monday commissioned by the Italian Ambassador to Uganda Petro Ballero at a function in Patongo sub-county.

UNRA technical service manager Benjamin Olobo received the road and bridges in the presence of the district officials. The Patongo LC3 chairman, David Okello, said the bridges would connect Patongo to Kitgum and Agago

Francis Okot, a businessman in Patongo, said: “We thank the government of Italy for the bridges and grading of the Patongo-Kitgum and Agago-Kalongo roads. They will ease our movement.”

The residents also appealed to the Government to tarmac the major roads that link Agago to Kitgum and Pader districts.

Ballero said the project aimed at easing movement and trade for residents of Agago and Kitgum and the neigbouring areas.

The project manager of Italian Cooperation, Thomas Tamanini, said a survey will be carried out find out if the Kitgum-Kalongo can also be graded.
