EXPRESS FC’s new leadership will not subject its tacticians to silverware pressure.

EXPRESS FC’s new leadership will not subject its tacticians to silverware pressure.

“We are rebuilding the team. Give us at least two years to put in place proper club structures before you can start thinking of big things,” Francis Ntalazi, the official in charge of technical matters on the new executive said.

The new executive headed by Bbaale Mugera is confident coach Sam Ssimbwa and his assistant Wasswa Bbossa can deliver on this objective.

Ntalazi added that they have accordingly told Ssimbwa and Bossa to concentrate on building a new team.

Express will also not hold on to players who want to leave. “If any player sees better opportunity elsewhere, they can leave. We are not going to compete for any player,” stressed Ntalazi.

One of the first areas of attention will be immediate change of the players’ payment mode. The Red Eagles have under former chairman Kavuma Kabenge been receiving allowances based on performance.

“We want to revert back to a system of salaries. This could later be further strengthened by winning bonuses,” explained Ntalazi.

The executive also wants to redraft players’ contracts. The executive however did not say what was lacking in the previous documents.

The new leadership took charge after sections of the fans complaining of what they described as authoritarian tendencies in Kabenge’s administration.

Mugera could count himself lucky. While Kabenge had to get deep into his pockets to finance the club, Mugera will have the cushion of corporate funding from SuperSport International and Uganda Breweries.

It was almost a similar story in the early nineties when Mugera had a successful run as club chairman. Express was at the time sponsored by oil companies Esso and Gapco.

Sports Club Villa is the first Ugandan club to introduce seasonal tickets for their league matches in one of the several changes geared at raising funds and the standard of football in the country.

Silvano Kibuuka writes that The innovation was announced by Villa president Fred Muwema at Nakivubo on Saturday where new recruits were unveiled to fans after a friendly game where they lost 2-1 to the old staff.

Muwema urged fans to buy the computerised tickets offered by Pearl Sporto Investments and go for sh1m for the VIPs and sh100,000 for the ordinary seats.

“This is the way your celebrated premier league clubs operate. It gives clubs funding to buy players in advance, prevent losses of revenue and minimise inconveniences at the gates,” Muwema said while urging fans to respond to the innovation.
