NAKAWA chief magistrates court in Kampala has dismissed charges of inciting violence against 20 opposition leaders and their supporters including UPC President Dr. Olara Otunnu and four opposition legislators.

The presiding magistrate Charles Serubuga told court that he was setting free the five opposition big wigs along with 15 FDC officials and supporters without defending themselves because court had not established any case against them.

The charges of inciting violence were brought against Otunnu, the leader of opposition in parliament, Nathan Nandala Magabi, Kyadondo East Mp, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Mbale municipality Mp, Jack Wamanga and Dokolo woman Mp, Cecilia Ogwal during the walks to work protests in April.

They were facing trial with other FDC officials, Margaret Wokuri, Sarah Eperu, Anne Mugisha, UPC’s Chris Opoka and DP’s Ben Mayanga among others.

Serubuga ruled that the opposition politicians who were facing charges of inciting violence, disobeying lawful orders and three counts of malicious damage were not required to defend themselves since there was no evidence linking them to the accusations.
