MOSES Kipsiro has been handed a double chance at the World Athletics Championships due in a fortnight in Daegu, South Korea. He has been entered in both the 10000m and 5000m races.

The Uganda ace, a double gold medalist at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games last year, will again be up against Ethiopian and Kenyan opposition in his favourite distance races. Kipsiro settled for bronze in the 5000m event in Osaka in 2007.

“We consulted him and he is happy with the entries. He is focused on it,” said national athletics body UAF secretary Beatrice Ayikoru, after Uganda made the final entry for the world event.

Jacob Araptany is another athlete entered for two events; the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase out of the 15 athletes entered for the world event.

Former world junior 5000m bronze medalist Moses Kibet was however dropped in preferance for Geoffrey Kusuro, Abraham Kiplimo and Kipsiro. IAAF rules call for a maximum entry of three starters to the event. The selection committee based their choices on the best times over the distance.

The entered athletes:

A. Negesa (800m), J. Mutekanga (800m), J. Araptany )1500m, 3000mSC), A. Kiplimo, G. Kusuro (5000m), M. Kipsiro (5000m & 10000m), S. Ayeko, B. Kiplagat (3000mSC), J. Suuto, S. Kiprotich, N. Kiprono, Daniel Chepyegon, R. Soibei (marathon), S. Nambawa (triple jump).
