THE head of the Commercial Court, Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire, has given Uganda Telecommunications Limited (utl) 60 days within which to deposit in court over sh5b pending the disposal of its appeal challenging his judgment.

This followed consent between MTN Uganda and utl to stay an order by the court against utl to pay sh5b to MTN in interconnection fees.

Earlier, Didas Nkurunziza, the utl lawyer, told the court that the parties had agreed that the payment should be subject to acceptable security being deposited in court within 60 days.

When the court asked what the security would be, Joseph Matsiko and Paul Kuteesa, who represented MTN, said they would prefer cash or land titles.

Earlier, utl in its application to stay the payment of the money argued that sh5b was a colossal sum of money since there was reasonable possibility of its appeal to succeed.
