UGANDA'S team has today arrived Daegu, Korea for the World Athletics Championships without the country's leading medal prospect Moses Kipsiro. Kipsiro pulled out of the championships yesterday.

Kipsiro, who won a bronze medal in the 2007 Osaka event and was a double gold medalist at last year’s Commonwealth Championships has officially written to the federation regretting his withdraw from the games.

He has replaced by Moses Kibet, who had also qualified for the 5000m event according to the federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru.

Kipsiro is just recovering from Malaria and typhoid which attacked him last month.

Also not making the trip for the start
on Sunday in Daegu, Korea is Jane Suuto, who was set to compete in the women marathon event but the IAAF refused her entry.

Africa triple jump champion Sarah Nambawa and 800m runner Julius Mutekanga have arrived.

The duo will be joined by the men’s steeplechase team of Benjamin Kiplagat, Jacob Araptany and Simon Ayeko, who fly out Thursday with Godfrey Nuwagaba to the event.

They were due to fly out with Moses Kipsiro, who officially wrote to the federation pulling out of the event.

Kipsiro had indicated that he might pull out of the event earlier, but the federation told him to sleep over it and when he made up the decision on Tuesday evening; they asked him to officially write indicating the reason why.

He sighted his physical and mental state as reason for the pulling out as he was not ready.

The team will be joined by Annet Negesa, Geoffrey Kusuro, Moses Kibet and Abraham Kiplimo , who fly out of the country Saturday, before marathoners Stephen Kiprotich, Nicholas Kiprono and Daniel Chepyegon join them on Wednesday.
