THE Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has congratulated all Muslims in the country upon completing the holy month of fasting, Ramadhan.

In a message issued on the eve of the annual celebration, the monarch wished the Muslim community a glorious Idd-el-Fitr celebration and fete.

“We congratulate all the Muslim faithful upon the successfully completion of fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan and on this auspicious occasion when you celebrate Idd-el-Fitr,” the Kabaka said in a statement.

“We salute all those who fasted in fulfillment of one of the key pillars of Islam. We hope you will continue with the good deeds, which honour Allah, as exhibited during this period. We wish you a joyous Idd-el-Fitr celebration,” the monarch implored.

Muslims all over the world today celebrate Idd-el-Fitr (the festival of fast-breaking). Muslims flocked mosques across the country for prayers.

Idd begins after the sighting of a new crescent moon, marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, during which devout Muslims abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex from dawn to dusk.

Idd falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month after Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.

Idd also represents the beginning of preparations for the Hajj period which ends with Idd al-Adha that is approximately 70 days after Idd el-Fitr.
