NATIONAL triple jumper Sarah Nambawa is the Uganda sports personality of the month of August.
The 2010 USPA Athlete of the Year, and nominee for sports personality of the year, outclassed rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka and UPDF football club Simba to win the monthly accolade at Oasis Restaurant yesterday.
She gathered 365 points ahead of Lwakataka (340) and Simba (285) to take the day.
Nambawa made the USPA list for winning the West African CAA grand prix triple jump in Kumasi, Ghana. She leaped 13.68m to beat Nigeria’s Iworima Otonye (13.37m) and France’s Mathilde Boateng (12.98m) to second and third places respectively.
Lwakataka won the Eastern Challenge Rally while Simba’s ticket was the East African Military Games football trophy in Burundi.
KAVC Volleyball Club men’s team, Eastern Uganda golf team and Kampala region football team were commended for their efforts during the month.
