President Yoweri Museveni has urged Ugandans to safeguard the investments that the country has so far registered.

Museveni also challenged Ugandans to use the investments profitably and responsibly.

This was in a message read for him by tourism and wildlife minister Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, at the opening of Western Meridian Hotel in Bushenyi town over the weekend.

The well-furnished hotel, the first of its kind in the district, has 60 bedrooms, a conference hall and a sitting capacity of 400 people.

Museveni hailed the hotel director, Deogratiuos Obenowobusingye, a prominent businessman in Bushenyi town, for his initiative and adding value to the town.

The new hotel has changed the the image and skyline of Bushenyi.
“The country needs people who can create employment opportunities and market for agriculture produce,” the President noted.

Museveni observed that Bushenyi was strategically located and challenged the business community to utilise this advantage and fully exploit its potential.

He implored other businessmen to emulate the proprietor, popularly known as Musiba, and establish such facilities in their respective communities.

Information and national guidance minister Mary Karooro Okurut, urged Ugandans to shun people who incite the public to participate in riots and demonstrations, saying such acts hurt investment and tourism.

“If we allow demonstrations, they will discourage tourists and investors from coming to Uganda. This will leave facilities like this hotel as white elephants.”

Health state minister Dr. Richard Nduhura, said Bushenyi had been lacking good facilities, which has affected the development of the town.

“Bushenyi has been losing revenue whereby people have been by-passing the town to go and stay in the neighbouring towns like Mbarara and Kasese,” Nduhura noted.
