REDEEMED Betty Namusoke will open her campaign for a medal at the East and Central Africa weightlifting championships at Buziga Country Resort near Kampala this afternoon.

Namusoke, who represented Uganda in the 75kg plus category at last year’s Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, revealed that she wants to use the experience she attained from the international event.

Her colleague and double silver medallist at last year’s Africa Youth Games, Nashibah Nakayiza will also vie for gold in the 53kg grouping.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category Farouk Kyambadde and Moses Bbale will make their international debuts in the 56kg and 69kg categories respectively.

However, Bbale will face tough competition from Mike Ssebbale who is enjoying a diversity of experience from the 2008 Olympic qualifiers in South Africa and the Africa senior weightlifting championships in 2005.

In the most awaited event of the day, Ismail Katamba and Semei Kasumba will face off in the 69kg category in the late evening.
