THE Omukama of Toro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, has met members of the Toro clan council and agreed to address their demands.

The move is aimed at resolving the conflicts in the kingdom. Oyo met 10 members of the council at his palace in Fort Portal town, Kabarole district on Monday.

Oyo noted that the demands of the clan council were genuine, saying he would address them as soon as possible.

The clan council demanded the appointment of another cabinet and election of new members to the supreme council.

They also want the appointment of the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa, as a regent nullified.

The clan council further demanded that Oyo stops Charles Kamurasi, the head of the ruling clan and Francis Mugenyi, Oyo’s principal private secretary, from being signatories to the kingdom’s bank accounts.

The council added that Mugenyi and Kamurasi should be sacked as administrators of the kingdom land in the absence of the king.

Unlike in the past when kingdom officials spoke on behalf of the king, this time, Oyo spoke for himself.

The chairperson of the clan council, Steven Nyamutale, said members told Oyo that if their demands were met, they would withdraw the case they had filed in court and lift the court injunction stopping all activities in the kingdom.

The development comes a few days to the 17th empango (coronation) anniversary celebrations slated for Saturday.

“The clan council wishes to inform the people of Toro kingdom that Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru has resolved all the issues in the kingdom and, therefore, all court proceedings have hereby ended peacefully,” Nyamutale said.

He, however, added that they could not withdraw the case before the demands were implemented.
