Gulu district has set up a six-member committee to identify means of raising alternative revenue in order to reduce reliance on grants from the central Government.

The committee is tasked to identify revenue avenues and make an inventory of redundant assets with the aim of redeveloping them.

The committee is headed by district chairman Martin Ojara Mapenduzi. Other members are Oloya Tebere (technical adviser), Alex Ojera (land management) Andrew Olal P’Obong, (water officer); Dr. Pontious Ochora (veterinary officer); Bernard Okumu, (commercial officer); and, Christine Arach (production and natural resources).

“We have planned to enhance our local revenue base from as low as 1.5% to 10%. We have planned to identify all redundant assets of the local government and develop a new basis of engagement with our development partners,” Ojara said on Thursday.
