<b>Jinja dogs get rabies vaccination</b><br>At least 100 dogs in Jinja municipality have been vaccinated as part of a campaign to eliminate rabies in the area, a disease transmitted through dog bites.

At least 100 dogs in Jinja municipality have been vaccinated as part of a campaign to eliminate rabies in the area, a disease transmitted through dog bites. The two-day exercise held at Kakindu community centre on Saturday and Sunday, was organised by the Jinja Animal Welfare Society. Male dogs were also castrated and females sterilised in an attempt to reduce the rising population of dogs in the town.

Tororo bans food vending on streets
Tororo district security committee has banned gambling and street vending of food during evening hours. The committee also banned the sale and consumption of alcohol before 5:00pm and recommended that bars close at midnight. The committee chairperson and area RDC, Damulira Kyeyune, appealed to all security organs and the local council officials to enforce the ban as a way of curtailing the increasing crime in the district.

Court sets date for local healer’s ruling
Jinja High Court has set today as the date to pass the verdict against a traditional healer who allegedly chopped off the penis of a five-year-old boy. The date was set after two assessors, Deborah Kazora and Bena Najjuko, advised the presiding judge, Justice Dan Akiiki, to convict the accused, saying prosecution proved that he committed the act

Jinja West MP gives out books
The MP for Jinja Municipality West, Moses Balyeku, has given out over 20,000 exercise books to primary school pupils in his constituency. He said he was fulfilling his promise of giving exercise books to the pupils every term. “During my campaigns, I promised parents that I will give books to their children,” he said. The 48-page books with the legislators portrait and name on the covers, were on Sunday distributed to the six parishes of Kimaka, Umbercourt, Nalufenya, Makenke, Jinja Central and Mpumudde. Maureen Awori, a Primary Six pupil at Jinja Army Boarding Primary School, thanked Balyeku for the donation saying she would do her best to excel.
