THE High court in Kampala has pushed delivering judgment in an election petition challenging former Vice- President Gilbert Bukenya’s election as Busiro North MP to next week, September 28.

The verdict was to be delivered today, Monday but neither Bukenya and his lawyers and the petitioners were not in court.

Journalists were by 7.00am at the court but a court clerk later told them that the verdict had been pushed to next week.

“We have decided to push the verdict to September 28, 2011, because both sides have not turned up for the verdict,” he said.

Justice Vincent Kibuuka Musoke is to give the verdict. The election petition was lodged on April 4 by Bukenya’s his political rival, Hussein Kasta Bukenya, who claims Prof. Bukenya, bribed voters to retain the seat.

He alleged that Ex-VP Bukenya gave out sugar and soap to voters in the parishes of Buwanuka, in contravention of the electoral laws.

He further claims that he gave out Shs300, 000 to a youth group known as Living Hope Organisation at his country home in Kakiri.

In the same petition, Kasta accuses the Electoral Commission (EC) of misspelling his name on the ballot paper as “Katya” instead of “Kasta” which he say cost him victory.

Bukenya garnered 17,382 votes, while Kasta came second with 4,953 votes. Five other candidates took part in the race.
