Not even the Saturday afternoon downpour in Kampala dampened the moods of revellers who turned up in droves to celebrate the 2011 India Day at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Play-back singer Raja Hassan, TV singer Rehaan Khan and super star singer Pragya Sodhani, all guests from India, had thousands of fans craving for more of their music.

Not even our prime minister, Amama Mbabazi and the India’s High Commissioner, Soumen N. Ray, were spared, as they kept on clapping during the performances.

The celebrations saw chief guest Amama Mbabazi give out some awards in recognition of Indians that have made significant milestones in Uganda. Among them were Karim Hirji, Mayur Madhvani, Rajul Tailor, Sudhir Ruparellia and Amir Karmali (Mukwano).

They all received plaques in the shape of the Ugandan map, their names inscribed on them.
