FOR a goat and sh3, 000, two policemen allegedly shot and killed a man in Abim district, northern Uganda last month.

Filbert Adata, a livestock trader, died at Adaye village where Gabriel Omara and Moses Gipir of the Anti-Theft Stock Unit reportedly waylaid him as he returned from Muleremu.
The duo were detained at the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) head office in Kampala yesterday.

They reportedly accosted Adata on August 9 at about 7.30pm, according to the Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba.

“Gipir raised his gun and pointed it at Adata. When he stopped, Gipir ordered him to surrender his money. But when Adata said he had none, Gipir shot him twice in the chest,” Nabakooba said.

She added that the suspects then reportedly grabbed the goat and sh3, 000, which was in the Adata’s pockets. The cops reportedly slaughtered the goat in a nearby bush.

However, as they walked away, a pair of gumboots, belonging to Omara remained at the scene.

“When he was arrested, Omara confessed that he and Gipir had killed Adata,” Nabakooba said.
Gipir, a resident of Rachkoko, then led detectives to an accomplice, Osper Opio. Opio allegedly gave the gun used to kill Adata.

According to the Police publicist, a gun was picked from Opio’s bedroom in Rachkoko while the other was recovered in Kiru village.
