A total of 25 pupils of SDA Integrated Day and Boarding Primary School in Kasitu sub-county in Bundibugyo district, were admitted to Bundibugyo Hospital last Sunday in critical condition after they sustained injuries from an electric shock.

The school matron, Busaghirye Nyesiyano, said the incident occurred at 10:00pm in the school chapel where the pupils were attending prayers.

“The fire started where the wires join. We struggled to get out of the building and later called the Police,” Nyesiyano said.

Bundibugyo district Police commander Denis Namuwoza told New Vision on Monday explained that the pupils were transported to hospital on the Police patrol vehicle because the hospital ambulance had no fuel.

“I was surprised to find the hospital closed. I felt guilty because I had moved the children from a clinic to the hospital and there was no one to attend to them,” he added.

The district chairperson, Jolly Tibemanya, said: “We need an explanation over this. I will treat this matter as negligence of duty.”

Dr. Moses Kasumba, who attended to the children, said they suffered shock.
