THOSE who were considering wearing their USPA Gala dancing shoes this Christmas can wait just a little more for the long awaited event.

The Nile Special USPA Awards Gala will be held on January 27, at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) and Nile Breweries have combined the 2010 and 2011 award ceremony in what is anticipated to be the biggest gala since its inception in 1974.

The 2010 Gala was delayed due to logistical challenges faced by the association.

“We promise that we shall have a very colourful event. We are happy with our mutually beneficial partnership with USPA and we look forward to rewarding sports excellence in Uganda on January 27,” Nile Breweries brand manager David Okello announced on Thursday night at a dinner at which golfer Flavia Namakula was crowned sports person for November. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) golfer won the Uganda Open to beat Dorcus Inzikuru among others to the monthly award.

Cpl. Flavia Namakula (R) is congratulated by her mum Judith Kamale after receiving her awards for the best sports personality of the month of November. This was during the Nile special-USPA sports personality of the month recognition dinner at Oasis Restuarant on Thursday

Namakula was accompanied by her mother Judith Kamale, Uganda Ladies Golf Union president Rose Musoke, secretary Jasper Kamukama and UPDF officers from Bombo barrack.

USPA president Mark Namanya and Okello handed over a plaque and sh500,000 prize money to Namakula.

“We know that glitz has frequently been the forte at all USPA galas,” said Namanya. “We are working towards delivering a first class event.”

The Nile Special sponsored awards night is expected to attract more than 500 guests from the sports fraternity, government and corporate world.
