THE International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa-regional in-charge Suliman Cassim has lauded Uganda for organizing international events superbly ahead of the upcoming Africa women’s Twenty20 tournament that commences on December 16-20.

Speaking to journalists at a press briefing on today morning at Oasis restaurant, Lugogo,  Kassim revealed that, “Uganda’s executive committee is very committed to what they are doing and we would like to appreciate their good work because it helps the development of the game in Africa.”

Uganda also hosted the men’s version of the Twenty20 in July 2011 which the hosts won after seeing off tournament favourites Namibia in the final.

Cassim added that, “Uganda has the infrastructure to host international events and of course the administration side is very solid-something that compliments the entire package.”

It is the very first time that West African teams-Nigeria and Sierra Leone are playing in the East African region which according to Cassim means the game is developing especially in the women’s category.

Ghana could not be allowed to participate in this tournament because they do not have a domestic league. This global ranking tournament has attracted six teams in total.

Kenya and Tanzania will be the last teams to arrive this afternoon as they join Uganda, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Namibia.

Speaking to New Vision online, the Uganda national team captain Barbara Mukankusi said that, “We shall not succumb to the pressure that comes with playing at home, actually we shall use the home advantage to our side. We shall not disappoint Ugandans and we call upon everyone to come and support us as we play.”
