NRM supporters who overwhelmingly voted President Yoweri Museveni back into power in the February general polls have vowed to deal with `rebel’ NRM MPs in their various districts who fight government programmes.

NRM supporters in the western Kisoro district assured the President over the weekend that that any member who was voted to parliament as an NRM but went against government programmes and positions would be dealt with by the voters.

Dr. Philimon Mateke the district NRM chairperson said when the President was campaigning in Kisoro, he asked the people to send him NRM members of parliament to work with him in Kampala and that is what they did.

“We can’t forget what the movement has done for this country and Kisoro in particular. All the people we sent to parliament are those people who were voted and sent to parliament to work with you. If they are not working with you, you should tell us who sent them there, so that we can deal with them since power belongs to the people,” Mateke said.

Mateke who was cheered on by hundreds of supporters said Kisoro is known for being an NRM stronghold and they do not want anyone to spoil this image.

“We want peace and development which the movement government brought and we don’t want to forget it. Those people we sent to parliament to work with you, if they are not working with you, tell us. When they come back to us, we know what to do with them. In Kisoro we don’t want people who are anti–development. All the people in Kisoro are supporters of the movement and are supporters of the president,” he said.

They assured the President that they will rally behind him up to the time he says he is tired, because they want peace and development.

Kisoro district voted NRM with an overwhelming 94% while Buyende district in the East, had over 90%. The President who resumed his anti poverty mobilization campaigns also used the opportunity to celebrate NRM’s landslide win in the February 18 polls.

President Museveni won the elections by 68% of the votes having secured victory in all regions of Uganda receiving 62.7% of the votes in central, 68.2% in eastern; 56.9% in northern and 80% in western region.

At a mammoth public rally held at the new district headquarters in Buyende district on Sunday, State sinister for regional cooperation and Member of Parliament for Bugabula South Asuman Kiyingi said when they were asking for votes as NRM candidates, the people of Busoga made them swear that they are coming to work with the President to bring development to their region.

“Your excellence nobody should deceive you that in Busoga there is anybody who was elected to go and fight President Museveni. When we were asking for votes, we swore that we will work with the President the man with the hat because that is what you requested the people. But when some got there they started fumbling with words that they were told to go and fight,” he said as the crowd cheered him on.

He then turned to the crowd and asked, “Is there anyone we sent to fight the president?”
And the crowd roared “noo”!

“All those fighting the President and sabotaging government progarmmes are doing their own thing. There is no Musoga who was sent to fight the President. They sent us to work with you not to sabotage your programmes. We work together and move with the movement instead of disrupting its programmes,” he said.
