A Muddy, slippery course accompanied with insufficient riding tactics saw the uganda motocross team lose grip of their 269-point lead and the eventual FIM Motorcross Challenge title.

The  team captained by Arthur Blick travelled to Nairobi, Kenya last weekend for the challenge which saw them fail to match the Kenyans who were familiar to their track and more in number in comparison to the Ugandan contingent.

In the MX1 category, Assaf Natan battled two of Kenya's top riders in Shivam Vinayk who spent two weeks in South Africa training prior to the competition and canadian based Francisco chechinn. Natan managed to finish second overall.

Arthur Blick rode hard and fast but could only finish sixth overall while Maxime Van Pee battled Kenyan champions Cruise Mungai and Tutu Maina and finished second overall behind Mugai.

The Totos were on fire dominating their two categories (65CC and 50CC) but could not help uganda win the championship. Ali Omar and Fortune SSentamu powered their bikes to victory in the last two runs of the 65 CC and 50CC categories respectively followed by Alistair Blick and Paddy Blick jnr.

It was a show of speed and aggression with both home and foreign rivalry which inspired the young riders to clinch the East and Central African motocross victory on a wet slippery track.

Uganda’s Ahmed Tamale won the MX125 CC but Kenya dominated the remaining categories of MX1, MX2 and the 85CC category.

“We are not used to these slippery wet tracks but I’m appreciative of the performance of the team,” noted team Captain Arthur Blick after finishing sixth in the MX 1 category.

Sarah Nakamya, the deputy secretary at the Uganda High commission commended the team for their good show. “This is good for us, they (Kenyans) were on their home ground and had a good geographical memory of their turf. But I want to thank you for keeping Uganda flag afloat."
