About 30 guests attended a party at the Uganda Club given by the Kabaka’s government Medical Department staff to bid farewell to the Principal Medical Officer (PMO), Dr. P. Esmonde who had served for the previous four years.

Guests included the then Minister of Health and Works A. S. Lubwama and the Former District Medical Officer (DMO) of Masaka, Dr. A. Kibaya, who has been promoted to replace Dr. Esmonde.

Speaking on behalf of the Medical Staff, Dr. Kibaya said that Dr. Esmonde was a man of ideas, energy and enthusiasm who had been devoted to expanding the Kabaka’s Ministry of Health. Wishing him and Mrs. Esmonde well, Dr. Kibaya said it was with regret that the medical staff saw Dr. Esmonde retiring.

Dr. Esmonde said that it had been a pleasure to work in Buganda where people had received him well, cooperated with him and that leaving was with regret but with conviction that people had begun to work together. He was then presented with a solid silver saucer boat and ladle as a token of appreciation.
