POLICE in a Kampala suburb have arrested two men allegedly involved in the sale of the illegal drug, Marijuana.

Alex Lwante Malinga Muzayi and Moses Kakiko residents of Bugolobi Kisenyi village were on Friday evening caught with half-a-sack of the processed drug and over 50 rolls of Marijuana sticks ready for sale.

Jinja Road police Chief Ashraf Seiko Chemonges said they have been trailing the duo drug dealers for a long time until they caught up with them.

“Growing Marijuana, commonly referred to as ‘weed’ is illegal, but we found out that some farmers in Bugolobi grow and sell it in broad daylight," Chemonges said.

He said the police by large depend on tip-offs from the public who know these drug dealers in their communities.

He revealed that Malinga, one of the suspects and a reknown Marijuana dealer who has been selling the drug to students and and also importing it from Nyendo town in Masaka district, has under surveillance until he got nabbed with his counterpart, Kakiko.

Chemonges said that those who have been arrested will help police in their investigations to lead them to others who are still at large.

“Marijuana is a narcotic drug and its possession and consumption is contrary to the Ugandan laws," Chemonges noted, adding that the suspects would be taken to court and charged with using illicit drugs.

Ugandan police have stepped up their efforts in the past year to stop Marijuana plantations and catch people dealing in marijuana.
