THE 2011 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have come to end Thursday afternoon with the completion of the Science paper.

A total of 535,500 pupils across the country registered and sat for the final national exams at the primary level.

In one incident, a 15-year-old candidate in Soroti district gave birth to a baby boy just before writing her first paper. In the same district, at least six PLE registered candidates are pregnant.

In central region, almost all schools started all their examinations within the prescribed time.

A total of 69 prisoners registered for PLE in Luzira Upper Prison. Nine of them were discharged and did not return for exams, much as the Prison Act permits them to return and do the exams in prison.

Meanwhile, a 52-year old inmate on death row at Luzira Upper Prison was also part of the pupils who sat for the final examinations.

In Gulu district, a teacher and a pupil are under arrest over impersonating an absentee candidate.

Delivery of examination papers was delayed in some other parts of the country due to heavily rains and tricky transport systmes to manuvre through.
