Heavy rains wash away 10 bridges in Tororo

Over 10 bridges have been washed away by heavy rains in Tororo cutting villages from the town.

Over 10 bridges have been washed away by heavy rains in Tororo  cutting villages from the town.The most affected roads are those that were recently graded under the Community Agricultural Infrastructural Improvement Program [CAIIP].

Engineer Andrew Asaya the in charge of CAIIP program said they have written to the chief Administrative officer to ensure that the contractor can be compelled to install additional culverts on the swept bridges.

“This is a natural disaster that has affected the entire country not only Tororo district, we are working on the modalities to address the problem as soon as possible,” Asaya said.

 He identified the washed bridges as those found along Morukatipe- Mella road, Mella-Amoni road, Merikit-Miwusi road, Paya- senda road, Kamuli- Petta road and Kidoko –Kamuli road.

 Asaya cautioned road users to be very careful while using the affected roads adding that most of the roads have also become impassable.
